Delaware Motorcycle Helmet Laws

HELMETS REQUIRED FOR ALL RIDERS UP TO AGE 19
REFLECTORIZATION REQUIRED
HELMETS REQUIRED FOR NOVICES OR PERMIT HOLDERS
(must have helmet in possession)

STATUTE:

Part III. Operation and Equipment. Chapter 41. Rules of the Road. Subchapter XI. Miscellaneous Rules. Section 4185:
" . . . (b) Every person operating or riding on a motorcycle shall have in that person's possession a safety helmet approved by the Secretary of Public Safety and shall wear eye protection approved by the Secretary; provided, however, that every person up to 19 years of age operating or riding on a motorcycle shall wear a safety helmet and eye protection approved by the Secretary."

State Funded Rider Education
Available for all eligible applicants.
Required under age 18.
May waive skills test for successful completion of rider ed.
May waive knowledge test for successful completion of rider ed.

Required by law.

Daytime Use Of Headlight
Modulating headlight permitted.

Required if carrying a passenger.

Passenger Footrests
Required if carrying a passenger.

Mirror
Required by law.

Periodic Safety Inspection
Required by law.
